'비'를 표현하는 순수한 우리말을 알아보겠습니다.
비에 관한 우리말이 뭐가 있나 조사해 보다가 깜짝 놀랐답니다. 한자어 말고, 비를 표현하는 우리말 단어가 50여 가지가 넘더라고요. '비'에 관한 우리말을 전부 익히고 나면 시인이 될 것 같아요. 아름다워서 가슴이 저리는 표현도 있고, 적확해서 새삼 선조들의 지혜에 감탄하게 되는 단어도 있었습니다. 우리 선조께서는 이 표현을 전부 사용하셨답니다. 우리도 이 아름다운 단어가 사라지지 않도록 자주 사용하면 어떨까요?

비가 내리는 모양새를 섬세하게 표현한 우리말 단어 몇 가지를 알려드릴게요.

달구비
달구처럼 몹시 힘 있게 내리쏟는 굵은 비. 아주 굵은 빗방울을 말합니다.
'달구'는 땅을 다지는 데 쓰는 둥근 나무토막이나 쇳덩이 따위를 가리킵니다.

"어느새 연휴가 끝나고 말았어요. 마음속에 달구비가 내리는 것 같아요."
이렇게 한 문장으로 사용해 보세요. 

마른비 
너무나도 건조한 날씨 탓에 땅에 닿기도 전에 내리면서 말라버리는 비를 마른비라고 합니다.

해비
해가 떠 있는데도 잠깐 내렸다가 그치는 비를 말하는데요, 북한에서 사용하는 말이라고 합니다. 

우리나라에서는 흔히 여우비라는 표현을 사용하죠.

해가 떠 있는데도 비가 내리면 뭐라고 하는 줄 아세요?
여우 시집간다고 한답니다. 호랑이가 장가간다고 하기도 하고요.
여우가 시집가는 날, 호랑이가 장가가는 날.
그런데 설마 여우와 호랑이가 신랑 신부는 아니었겠죠?

약비
꼭 필요할 때 약처럼 내리는 비라고 해서 약비라고 합니다. 북한에서는 제초제를 약비라고 말하기도 한다네요. 

일비
봄에 내리는 비를 일비라고 한답니다.

봄에는 비가 내려도 씨를 뿌리고 새싹을 옮겨 심어야 하고 일해야 하니까 일비라고 한다는군요. 말 그대로 일하라고 내리는 비라는 겁니다. 
그 뜻을 하나하나 새겨보면 정말 고개를 끄덕이지 않을 수 없죠?

잠비
여름에 내리는 비를 잠비라고 하는데요, 일비와는 달리 무더운 여름에 소나기가 내리면 일하지 않고 푹 자라고 비가 내린다고 해서 ‘잠비’라고 한다는군요.

떡비
가을에 내리는 비를 떡비라고 합니다. 가을에 비가 내리면 세상의 곡물이 익고 이것으로 떡을 만들어 먹을 수 있으니 떡비라고 했다죠.

술비
이건 당연히 겨울비를 말하겠죠? 겨울에 차가운 비가 내리면 따뜻한 방에 모여 앉아 술을 마실 수 있으니 술비라고 했답니다.

잠비와 떡비는 표준어 사전에 등재되어 있으나 일비와 술비는 아직 표준어 사전에는 등재되어 있지 않습니다. 

우리가 더 많이 사용한다면 표준어가 되겠죠?

I was surprised to find out that there are so many pure Korean words related to rain. 

There are more than 50 Korean words that express rain! You might be able to become a poet if you learn all the Korean words about rain. There were expressions that hurt my heart because of its beauty, and words that made me admire the wisdom of ancestors because of its accuracy. Our ancestors used all of this expressions. Why don't we use this beautiful word often so that it doesn't disappear?

Let me tell you some Korean words that delicately describe the shape of rain in detail.


달구비
a heavy downpour like a rammer. It's a very thick raindrop.
"달구" refers to round pieces of wood or iron used to stamp the ground hard.

"The holiday ended before I knew it. It feels like 달구비 is falling in my heart."
Try using it in one sentence.

마른비
Because of the dry weather, the rain that dries up before it reaches the ground is called 마른비.

해비
It refers to the rain that falls for a while even though the sun is up, and it is said to be used in North Korea. In South Korea, we often use the expression "여우비".

Do you know what they say when it rains even though the sun is up?
Then they say A fox is getting married. Or they say a tiger is getting married.
The day the fox gets married, the day the tiger gets married.
But the fox and the tiger won't be the bride and groom! will they?

약비
It's called 약비(Medicine Rain) because it falls when it's much needed like a medicine. In North Korea, herbicides are sometimes called 약비.

일비
The rain that falls in spring is called 일비.
In spring, even if it rains, you have to sow seeds and move sprouts and work.
That's why it's called "일비(Work Rain)". 
If you engrave the meaning one by one, you can't help but nod, right?

잠비
The rain that falls in summer is called 잠비. Unlike 일비, It's called "잠비(Sleep Rain)" because you don't have to work when it rains in the hot summer.

떡비
떡비 means rain falling in autumn. When it rains in autumn, the grains of the world ripen and you can make a rice cake with this, so you said "떡비(Rice Cake Rain)".

술비 
Of course it means winter rain, right? When it rains in cold winter, we can sit together in a warm room and drink, so rain that falls in winter is called "술비(Drinking Rain)".

달구비 and 잠비 are listed in the standard language dictionary, but 일비 and 술비 are not listed in the standard language dictionary yet. If we use more in daily lives, it'll be the standard language, right?
